Warframe’s Operation Buried Debts, Hildryn ‘frame, and melee combat revamp are live

Digital Extremes is keeping the pressure up with Warframe’s incessant content rollouts, and we are not mad about it at all. Last night, the studio dropped free content Operation: Buried Debts for PC players, a time-limited community event, along with Hildryn, the game’s 39th ‘frame, and the first phase of the game’s planned melee revamp, with more fluid combat overall.

“Operation: Buried Debts poses a disturbing new wrinkle to the evolving story of Fortuna’s debt-internment colony. Following the original expansion and the subsequent update, The Profit-Taker, Tenno are thrust into a new storyline that re-defines the cynical deal Nef Anyo holds over the Solaris United Faction. Teaming up with your fellow Tenno won’t just be a good idea, it will be a must!”

Hope you got a jump on the operation last night, as Reddit’s already solved one of the key puzzles.

Oh yeah, and TennoCon is sold out! Wild.

Finally, as MOP reader Sophiskiai points out, there’s been a bit of drama over economy manipulation in the game, specifically centering on game mods known as Rivens. DE has addressed that on Reddit, saying it will be “providing aggregated actual Riven trade value data for toolmakers to use” so that everyone can see exactly what the going rates really are and aren’t stuck with fake data from chat bots.

We’ll be streaming the new content tonight on OPTV at 8 p.m. – see you then!

Source: Press release, patch notes, thread. Cheers, Sophiskiai!

Sold Out, ofc it is by the time the decision to go or not was made well ofc. lol

These changes are amazing, almost like a new game, again, they pull this off all the time.

Nightwave has grown on me in huge way, for me at first it lost that jump on/off as in i felt like this to do list but, its stuff that gets done in the background as you play.

This is a BEEFY update. So much to unpack here.

The most exciting thing for me is the thought of getting my hands on an Opticor Vandal. I recently got a godly Riven for Opticor (+crit chance, +crit damage, +punct) and I am, well, gonna play the sh*t out of a fast-firing portable orbital laser strike unit.

Well, Hildryn is beefy anyway. In the above video I didn’t really think it sounded as if her powers matched her muscular frame that much, but in looking her up it made much more sense to me. She’s supposed to be like a shield maiden that helps shield and tank others (that she can shield others was shown in the video but wasn’t my main take away after watching it). She has the highest shields of any Warframe and doesn’t use energy in her powers at all. So in a way it makes sense even though she looks to me like she’d be more melee based than she is.

The Operation is only around for a couple of weeks but they’ve said it’ll be recurring frequently since it’s the only way to obtain some of Hildryn’s parts. Farming mobile defence missions around the Vallis against level 45-50 enemies earns you a set of Amalgam Mods and a new Vandal version of the popular Opticor laser cannon with slightly improved stats.

The other part of the Operation started with pieces of a puzzle being sent out to various content creators in the community. This was used to decode and assemble a map pointing to the locations of small datapads high on ledges and deep in caves around the Vallis that have given us code numbers and led to a secret, once enough players have made progress in scanning these datapads we’ll be able to unlock this secret wih the code numbers and proceed to the next stage of the event…

For anybody who won’t be able to play in the next couple of weeks, the Buried Debts operation is supposed to return periodically just like the Ghouls do on the Plains of Eidolon. So, don’t feel too bad about missing out. :)

The melee changes are brilliant, quick smooth automatic weapon swapping and directional slams and automatic blocking make me a very happy Tenno :D

They’ve also doubled the Nightwave standing gain from capturing Saturn Six convicts, which is a nice move in the right direction, and the patch includes some great UI and QoL changes.

What’s not making people happy is Hildryn’s blueprint being locked behind max rank with the Vox Solaris faction. The last ‘frame, Baruuk, was also available from Vox Solaris (meaning he was locked behind max rank with Solaris United plus a bunch of Profit-Taker bounties plus a lot of tedious Toroid farming). Hildryn requires a lot more of those bounties and Toroids plus a bunch of Profit-Taker spiderboss kills, and her signature Archgun weapon also requires some Profit-Taker bounties and kills for the research and crafting materials. There’s a feeling that the new ‘frames can only be acquired in-game by dedicated hardcore players and anyone else who wants them has to buy them with Plat :/

I’ll make a second comment to talk about the Operation so this doesn’t become too much of a wall of text…

The new melee combat is absolutely aces, I’m *adoring* it so far. The fluidity makes it feel 80% of the way to a new game. What’s your melee of choice with it, just out of curiosity? Myself I’m rolling a staff Zaw with the Clashing Forest stance and I’m just flying through tilesets with the built-in gap closer. SO. INCREDIBLY. FUN.

Also true about the standing grind though. DE can’t not know what they’re doing, and they have to realize that grinding the plat to just buy Baruuk/Hildy is faster starting from scatch than maxing VS standing. I guess they just don’t care since somebody had to have paid for the play you’re selling your Prime parts for. It’s disappointing though, and I hope they rethink the approach.

I don’t usually melee very much (though that may change once I’ve spent some more time with this update), on ‘frames with blind or sleep CC I use a Covert Lethality dagger Zaw and the rest of the time I tend to just flail about with Paracesis!

As a beginner with a focus on melee I’m very happy with the changes. Instant melee/ranged transitions feel good and the ability to precisely aim my sword dive bomb run is very satisfying.

Nice that they sold out TennoCon this early, and in London ON no less. Its too bad I’ll be back to being 6+ hours away by July instead of the 1 hour now :/!
