If you’re really tired of waiting for the mobile version of Final Fantasy XI, perhaps you’re willing to go a bit more low-tech with a version of the game for… the GameBoy? It’s still mobile, if you’ve got lots of money to spend on batteries! Also a functional GameBoy and the ability to load a ROM onto a cartridge, probably. Yes, it’s a fan game made by Kazy, not an official project, but it’s still really neat just the same.
The project recreates some 30 areas of the game in pixel form, complete with familiar maps and story quests to provide narrative context. There’s no fighting to be had, as the emphasis is on the story and exploration sides of the game, but that’s still a lot of material to cover for the game. And yes, it’s free if you want to take a tour through the game’s faux-portable goodness.
