Star Trek Online fans are having a good week, it seems: PWE and Cryptic just announced Awakening, launching for PC on September 10th. As usual, console players will be waiting a tad longer for their trip. The headliner of this expansion is the voice and visage of Discovery’s Anthony Rapp, who’ll bring Lt. Commander Paul Stamets to life as the key to the storyline that follows up the Age of Discovery arc.

“Following the epic conclusion to the multi-part saga, Age of Discovery, the free-to-play Star Trek MMORPG will return to its original timeline in the 25th century. When Awakening releases this fall, players will warp to the year 2410, where they will embark on a mission to recover stolen Mycelial technology from J’Ula and the Klingons, with the help of Lt. Commander Paul Stamets (voiced by Anthony Rapp from Star Trek: Discovery) in holographic form. Captains can also access Awakening to participate in a series of exciting patrols to repair time rifts, a brand new Task Force Operation and a special Mycelial Event which rewards players with a new T6 Elachi ship for completing missions.”

Going to be at the Star Trek Las Vegas event this weekend? Cryptic will be there with multiple panels on the game, including a first-look at Awakening with Rapp.

I’m hyped for this, (to no one’s surprise).

I do laugh at the image they’re using for the trailer a little, though, because I remember Rapp making some joke in an interview about how he wears glasses in real life, and he doesn’t always see very well without them.

So, of course, I wonder if his squint above is the archetypal “hero squint” we see in movies and TV constantly, or if Rapp is actually wondering “Is that the horizon over there, or should I have worn my contact lenses today?” :-)

As others have mentioned here, as much as the recent “trips into the past” Star Trek Online episodes were interesting as backstory, I’m also ready to see more of the J’Ula plotline unfold.

Cheers,

In much more important Star Trek Online news, I finally screencapped a cutscene where my Gorn’s pretty head isn’t cut off. I only had to progress as far as the Hur’q storyline to get it!

He’s also sitting in the chair and not standing on it so that’s extra amazing.

I’m glad they’re finally following up on the J’Ula plot they started with. Involving the Elachi makes sense, too. Considering they’re a fungus.

Yes the Discovery arc in our journals right now feels like 3 different stories stitched together. I would love them following up their stories from now on

Overal quite happy with the ship update that got announced yesterday and the new season seems it will be interesting. I also like they will give out an elachi ship. I hope its not an escort or cruiser though cause there is a great amount of those in the game while other types of ships(dreads, science, carriers etc) do not have as many

Also they are updating the patrol system while also adding more. Its a change that may sound small but it may improve significantly the gameplay there

I’m pretty sure that the old Elachi escort and cruiser introduced in Legacy of Romulus already have T6 versions. I could see Cryptic giving the Elachi a new ship type (new for them, anyhow), that gets previewed in an episode or two about what the Elachi’s status quo is now that the Iconian War is over.

I’m also hoping the revamped Patrol system turns out well. New ways to have fun are always welcome.

I see what you did there (considering he’s gay)

plenty of gay christians who practice. and it had no such “did there”. it’s a simple turn of phrase.

he’s a great dude, great actor, and does an incredible job in the role. stands out amongst an incredible cast and has an amazing character arc.

had nothing to do with religious beliefs or otherwise. it’s like saying thank god it’s friday. i’m saying thank god it’s anthony rapp, everyone’s favourite sass machine on disco.

So did I have my comment deleted for mentioning Kevin Spacey, because neither of these comments mention Star Trek or STO at all, and one of them made a crack about gay people. All I mentioned was my regret for the final season of HOC and showed support for people like Rapp that came out against Spacey. Technically my comment was just as off topic as DeeKay and 3dom, it’s BS and I’m calling it out.
