Phantasy Star Online 2 is getting a new mecha-themed class in Japan

Stellar.

Now that Phantasy Star Online 2 is coming to North America (really, they mean it this time, until they don’t), it feels a little more pertinent to check on what the game’s Japanese version is up to. The title recently had an anniversary event over in Japan, and the developers announced a new class arriving in the game with a special trial event coming around in October.

So what is the class? It’s called the Etoile (which is “star” in French), and it seems to have a very mecha look and feel to it, and… well, that’s all we know right now. There’s not much information beyond that; the trailer shows off pretty standard beam-y sword-y stuff without any actual combat, and beyond the title calling it the “third power” there’s nothing to do but speculate. Still, it seems like something that will be fun to play around with soon for those playing the Japanese version and to look forward to when that Western launch actually happens next year.

Its not a mecha class, the mecha looking thing you see in the trailer is a cast one of the races. The third power thing means that it is a hybrid class like the hero and the phantom. It looks like it uses dual blades, double sabers and wands.

Also it being a hybrid class means that you probably need to get 2 classes to lvl 70 and finish his quest line, so its not a class you play at the beginning.

Oh, right. Here I was thinking they were added a class that uses armor as it’s weapon like Iron Man or Garo or something.

Maybe the video is also showing off new cosmetic parts for that race?

I kind of looking forward to the western release. Never played PSO2 but I did get to mess around with the PSO1 demo on my old Dreamcast and it was cool. Man, that was so long ago.

This is the second site to say “Mecha looking class”. Hopefully I can clear up some details.

The character seen in action is simply their poster model for the class. This is the third “Advanced Class”, hence the nickname “Third Power”. The class will be the first not to utilize all three damage types, instead using two melee weapons(S-ATK) and one Technic weapon(T-ATK or what other games call magic). The class will be releasing in Winter of this year.

Keep in mind, I am not an employee or anything. Just a Japanese player. But I hope this clears up possible details. It will be an interesting class, regardless.

Still absolutely no news about any regions outside of NA.

I just hope NA won’t IP-block, tbh.
