At long last, Sony has unveiled the logo for the upcoming PlayStation 5. And it… looks exactly like the previous logos, but with a number 5. That’s it. That’s all that Sony revealed here. It’s not clear what else anyone expected, but this is what we actually got. We don’t yet know the fate of several MMOs currently on the PlayStation 4 (among them Neverwinter, Black Desert Online, and Star Trek Online), but we do know that Final Fantasy XIV has at least been noted obliquely as something Square-Enix plans to update to the new console.
Meanwhile, Nintendo appears quite happy to keep putting out the Switch, but there is a report that the company is going to be producing a new model of the console/handheld for release at some point this year. Rumor has it that this will be a hardware upgrade akin to the “pro” versions of the PS4 and Xbox One. The Switch also has its share of MMOs (including Dauntless and Warframe), although as this does not appear to be any sort of replacement, it seems like there’s no threat of these titles being left without this console to call home.
