World of Warcraft: Shadowlands has an encrypted alpha build out now

Blizzard would probably like it if people stopped talking about how the latest World of Warcraft patch is not very good, or how Warcraft III: Reforged is also not very good. In fact, the studio would probably like it if you focused chiefly on the upcoming Shadowlands expansion, like how it’s got an encrypted alpha out in the wild right now! This is not actually the equivalent of jingling your car keys in the hopes of attracting the attention of a volatile toddler, but it feels somewhat similar in context.

It’s important to note two things here. First, the alpha build is encrypted, meaning that datamining is not actually possible at this time. Second, this is not in and of itself any confirmation about what is and is not in testing, since this could just as well be planning for a near-future rollout by laying down the infrastructure. Still, it seems like a safe assumption that more will coming soon for the expansion, so it’s a significant precursor.
