It looks like there’s some new things to play with coming to survival sandbox Last Oasis. A new dev blog posted on the game’s Steam page outlines a number of new things coming with the next update like a new walker and a new event for players to get some extremely valuable resources, and discusses ways the developers are trying to fix zerging in the game.
The next patch will introduce a new small walker known as the Mollusc, which features a closed cabin that players can store things like chests or crafting stations. It also has a caged control area, though it also looks like it’s spectacularly hard to see out of. Because you can’t have nice things in a sandbox without giving up something, apparently.
Speaking of having nice things that can devolve into a hellscape, the next update will also feature occasional falling meteors that create resource-rich craters, which will be full of iron and other materials needed for higher technology crafting but will also most certainly draw in lots of players who are ready to fight for those resources. The devs even go so far as to suspect that crater expeditions will be the hardest thing to do in the game.
What shouldn’t be hard to do, no matter how brutal Last Oasis wants to be, is simply being a solo player. In a turn of events that’s certain to shock everyone, solo players and softer targets have been the victims of zerging, with most players seeing others less as a potential friend and more as just another enemy to kill. The devs are aware of the issue and hope that upcoming territory claiming features will let larger clans build a vassal-style relationship with solo players, as clans get bonuses for gathered materials as well as focus less on killing single targets and more on protecting their land from other large clans. That said, the team is open to feedback and is brainstorming additional improvements in this area.
As for the next update, that’s expected at some point next week. You can get a look at the Mollusc walker in advance with the video preview below.
