Funcom appears to confirm leak of Conan Exiles’ Architect of Argos DLC

A trailer leaked on YouTube and Reddit this week seems to show major spoilers for Conan Exiles’ next big thing.

MOP’s own Survivalist column has previously deep-dived everything we know about the promised new content coming for Funcom’s big survival title this year; we already knew that the game would see DLC in the first half of 2020, then a paid expansion later this year, though we assume the pandemic has jostled this timeline quite a bit now.

The leak is for the DLC, reportedly called Architect of Argos. While the original video has been removed from YouTube now for obvious reasons, other videos covering it have popped up, including one from wak4863, who describes the Aquilonia-esque architecture, nearly 100 new building pieces within the theme (including roofs, fountains, and pillars), and lots of nautical goodies.

Funcom hasn’t denied the rumors; in fact, it’s planning a dev stream – yes, streams are returning – tomorrow, promising “new things coming.” The tweet included a small clip from the video, thereby seemingly confirming the leak.

I’m always leery about these DLC buildings because many of them are just straight up bad. Like I ended up getting the Year 2 DLC package and had Turanian which I quite liked in many things. However there were just bad building connections like the Turaian walls not matching up on corners so the wall edges just stuck out like a sore thumb on an “L Section” of walls.

I also wish they would separate the armor stats from being DLC based. Like the only Heavy Accuracy armor with heat resistance is Poitain which if you don’t own that DLC you’re boned cause only other heavy accuracy armor is cold resistance. This means you’ll get roasted alive if you end up Unnamed City for example. Would be nice if the armor was just heat or cold resistance and then you choose the stat bonus that goes on it.

It would help if the heat/cold resistance was just a little better distributed and made more sense to begin with. Some sets that consist of a heavy fur collar and a lot of leather straps are “cold resistance,” even though they cover slightly more than a two piece bathing suit. One of the Stygian armors is also “cold resistance,” even though they’re basically “evil ancient Egyptians” and I’m pretty sure the entire country is in the middle of a desert. Why does it have cold resistance? Reasons. :(

Honestly I find the whole thing nonsensical. Like where my base is setup the weather is “normal” and so wearing desert gear actually makes me cold/very cold/freezing. How am I freezing in weather where if I was naked I would be perfectly fine? It makes no sense. If there’s a way to mod out temperatures I’m probably going to use it next time I play because it’s just stupid annoying coming up with set/stat combinations let alone aesthetics you like for 3 environments and having to carry it all because you walk into a cave and go from freezing to burning.

Yeah, there’s no real reason to deny it. They were going to show it off tomorrow anyway and this just gets more hype for that.

I’m curious to see what they do to differentiate it from the Aquilonian parts. According to people who know more about Conan lore than I do, Argos is basically ancient Greece, so it’s going to be another set full of white marble and fluted pillars. I still wish there was a chance they’d do a Stygian themed set though.

I would really like boats that I can control and have some river battles while increasing the size of the height map, or add zones for new content. A Server population increase would be fun.

I assume you’re talking about on the new map they’re potentially working on? Because the current one only has like, one decent river down towards the newbie area, and a moderately sized lake up in the north.

Honestly, I don’t really see how Conan Exiles could really do much with boats. The map and mechanics don’t seem to be built for water… at all, really. So much so that the underwater dungeon filled with fish people is still all about fighting in air-filled rooms. All the sharks and stuff swimming around outside are just decoration. The game doesn’t even try to handle water combat, so they’d have to build all the mechanics for it completely from scratch.
