Star Citizen’s free fly event extends due to consistent technical issues

This past weekend was meant to be a big moment for Star Citizen, with the start of its Invictus Launch Week free fly event that opened up a new area with several ships to try for free. What’s happened, however, has been a weekend of server issues and game crashes that have beleaguered the entire event.

The game’s current status page tells the tale, with the sandbox portion of the game having either been completely offline or in a state of “degraded performance” since the event began. As of this writing, the game is still listing issues like the inability to get past character creation or access UI elements like the mobiGlas, personal inventory, or PMA and VMA screens.

As a result of the whole issue, CIG announced that the event will be extended until Tuesday, June 2nd. That, however, has not done much to abate the community meltdown, with rancorous posts on the official forums and on Reddit of either venting frustration, wondering what the game’s true status is, or posting memes. There are, however, a couple of calls for calm, with one particular post chiding the community’s rage.

In spite of all of the technical issues, the game has seen another spike in ship sales.

In semi-related Star Citizen news, the devs took a moment to answer player questions regarding vehicles in the Star Citizen Live broadcast. You can watch the full stream below and check out this quick summary.
