Genshin Impact outlines its update schedule for its next three major patches

It appears that miHoYo’s Genshin Impact has certainly had an… impact on potential players. (We have fun here.) But the developers are not resting on their collective laurels and assuming that all that needs to be done has already been done; instead, they’re pushing forward with plans not just for the game’s next update of version 1.1, but plans for version 1.2 and 1.3 according to a new development post. The current plan is to aim for a patch roughly every six weeks or so, starting with patch 1.1 on November 11th.

Patch 1.2 follows on December 23rd, with 1.3 currently slated for February of 2021. Furthermore, each new patch will have an associated event; 1.1 brings in the Unreconciled Stars event, while 1.2 brings out the new Dragonspine area and a related event, and 1.3 will kick off the Lantern Rite event series. Check out the full rundown for a clearer picture of the current development timetable if you’ve been enjoying the game so far.

Chinese anime mobile gacha game….just kill me now….except this is actually a pretty decent game that redefines what to expect from a mobile game in terms of quality and it actually being a game and not a video that occasionally asks you to press buttons.

Sure the end game wants you to pay a ton of cash to grind stuff but you can play a long ass time until you get there and then just quit and you got a solid game longer than many full price AAA titles for nothing.

The game is great but think they are shooting themselves in the foot. They put gacha mechanics in the game, but are not sticking to a more frequent update schedule to play into that. Most people will not stick around to actually get to the updates cause of the way they are monetizing the game. I also know that systems like the resin are part of gacha games, but not to this extent on a PC game that’s not just mobile.

Don’t get me wrong I really enjoy the game but have hit the resin wall where my playtime is mostly meaningless at this point. I get less than on hour of meaningful playtime total a day. I can’t grind for upgrade materials because I refuse to pay for a time gate for that type of thing. I have no problems with buying the Battle Pass, or some gems for character rolls, but not going to spend a single dime just to be able to access domains, events, or boss loot.

I don’t really see a change to this mechanic any time in the near future because they made their money back on development already in just a couple weeks. It’s just sad to see a game ruined by greed (resin system), because the game itself is one of the better ones to come out recently. Wish they would just go the route of making costumes and character rolls as the main way to make money and remove the resin system or at least really speed up the regain time. I understand they want to slow progress but doing it this way is just really bad.

And all this right here is why I won’t ever touch it.

I believe the resin system is being (re) evaluated as we speak. Character costumes are coming. There are quite a few mechanics that will change over the next year. The developers are seeking a lot of feedback, constantly. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed myself and spent all of $5 on the game. I don’t know why camren_rooke (or others) “won’t ever touch it”, because it’s been well worth my time, and great fun.

Mostly I have heard bad things about the end game as well.

I am happy that you enjoy it though, truly and I hope that it brings you lots of pleasure and happiness.

There is enough sorrow and bitterness in the world now … so something that brings joy is a good thing.

Have fun with the game!

If you’re playing highly or especially for endgame, well if also casual, then that’s nice, you have a routine available and it will only grow, but if hardcore, its a bare experience and check back next year.

‘Stuff’ will still happen every 2ish weeks, they’ll make sure of that just as they put that elemental event in before 1.1.

Major updates are aiming to be every 6 weeks instead of 3-4. That doesn’t mean Update 1.1.5 with something won’t happen.

Its not the update schedule that worries me (I’m more confident than worried, but I can see a farther future where they retreat into China or China+Japan market and stop supporting English voiceover etc), its the progression. While I understand a F2P game pacing players out to some extent, its arguably quite true that even active grinders, even RESIN REFILLER grinders, won’t have characters developed enough to even care to get new ones.

My gametime is definitely more than an hour though. I did the elemental event but took some time doing it instead of a couple hours immediately. I do the daily commissions. I expend resin in a way that’ll help, maybe or maybe not using a fragile resin. I advance the story a bit, maybe pursue a sidequest I was neglecting. I explore more of the map in a more steady pace than at Mondstadt. When my attention is focused elsewhere but I still want to play, I go to Mondstadt and roam around to get mora, upgrade items, encounter small events/quests, gather, and get closer to my 100% completion of most things. That’s at least 2-4 hours I can do a day, and I don’t think the devs are obliged to let me play 6-8+. I think they SHOULD, and even MUST for the health of the game, but I personally am doing just fine outside of being somewhat unable to chain some resource domains for upgrade mats, something I’m in no rush to do because I can deal with Stormterror, and group for world bosses. I just want to do it.

They’re already seemingly on the way to changing the resin system, but its more of a nudge than a sweep. Apparently they’re adding a way to convert stocked resin (+ some resource I don’t know, but it looks common and just there to add a cost for this choice) into a fortified resin that should get multiplied better loot from resin-costing rewards. So on days you can’t play much except login, or domains’ rewards aren’t your jam on that day, you convert to this fortified resin for the days you are available and/or there are rewards you want.

This solves more than many would admit at first look. But it doesn’t solve that players want at least the capacity to play hours more per day (if not many more) to at least some chance at drops of what they need.

Unlike many, I think they will get more lenient on the resin system over time. I can even see a point in the next year or two that regular players don’t even have to think about it because not botting 24/7. But I think they went with more reliable up front income rather than a potential higher gamble of focusing on the Dressing Room. They’ll try out some cosmetic purchases and see how players bite, and if they don’t, I don’t see resin drastically changing soon.

My biggest problem right now is I don’t want to up my world level again. I am already rank 35 but will not go complete it because I don’t want the monsters to get harder because I have 5 more characters that I am working on leveling up. Once you finish all the chest, quest, statue items you basically run out of things that will help you level characters without running domains for upgrades. I mean if I did stormterror and the wolf I am done for the day pretty much on that one. Granted they are once a week but that is an entire day or half a day of play time. I could possibly get a a domain run in if I get enough built back up.

Overall here is my play time. I log in I complete the 4 daily quest, total of about 15 mins at the most, usually a lot less. Then I will look at what I need first, item for character or weapon. If it is say a boss part, working on pyro as main then I would go run the pyro flower to get the drops I need. I down it in about 5 mins or less using my water guy. Can’t remember think that takes 20 resin to collect. So now I need 6 plus epic of the part and it randomly will drop two sometimes, I could burn all my resin just farming that one thing or run a domain for something else. I run domains in about the same amount of time so either way 120 resin equal 6 runs at the most. So between those things I have spent about 45 mins. I have already found all the chest, and statue items, so going to look for that random repop on some of the chest is what I do sometimes. I could go randomly look for those blue random pop up activities, they are very rare. I sometimes do the mini bosses, gives me about another hour if I do that, mostly that is just running to them though. Wish they didn’t limit how many spawn, think it is set to 4 before you have hours of cooldown for respawn.

Overall I don’t need a game company telling me how much to play or not play. If a person needs a company to do that for them then they have other problems that needs to be addressed outside of the game.

Sounds like you beat the game.

They’re still doing events and such between the major updates. For instance, they started a new smaller event earlier this week that’s focused on COOP.

To get the rewards though cost you resin. You can do the book for it and get those rewards, without getting the actual loot from the event. It is that type of decision though locking loot behind a pay wall that is a problem.

Reader
Michael Fuchs

Oh, I totally agree. I would have much preferred you be able to claim a total # of event rewards from the crucible a number of times per day instead of resin cap it. I was pleased you could do the book and BP missions without claiming, but damn do I need those books.

Oh I thought this was new.

Well to let others know, this is not ALL that’s in the patches. The post by the devs was more in response to inquiry about what events are coming. From info leaked so far, there’s (whether 1.1 or sometime later, and take any bit of this with a grain of salt):

-talent upgrade item though limited events
-new boss(es?)
-new characters
-new 4* weapons
-food bag (quickslots? or seemingly auto-consume)
-custom teleport waypoints, aka hearthstone
-wind spirit bottles (jump up like Venti? but as consumable)
-flight challenges
-free Fischel unit through challenges
-new story chapters/quests, Dragonspine area in 1.2 but no new region soon
-convert resin to condensed resin for reward multiplier
-more social features and events
-function to lock inventory items
-in-game index of monsters, animals, plants
-an item to find missing occuli through a new feature
-camera options
-over-enhancing xp will refund at least some xp materials
-a change where environmental damage will properly scale by world level
-player report system
-dispatched expedition characters are no longer unavailable
-various combat fixes like with Lisa attacking from distance being unintended to be so weak
-reputation levels for region completion, unique rewards like glider wings
-mono-element team setups buffed, especially Geo
-character nerfs (ohno), character buffs

No, I didn’t just come up with this. Mostly copy pasted from what I’ve earlier written ;)
