Overwatch Game Director Jeff Kaplan clearly got out of the house this past week, donned his iconic sunglasses, and addressed the community in a new developer update. One of the big reveals that he dropped on us is that the team shooter is going to be introducing something called “priority passes” in the near future that can be used to send your character to the front of the line while queuing up for bouts.
The idea here is that Blizzard is trying to incentivize players to queue for multiple roles — “flex queues” — to speed up the formation of matches. Players who participate in flex queues will earn a number of priority passes to use for their damage-dealing classes. Winners will get more priority passes, but even losers are able to earn some for future fights.
Over at Hearthstone, the card game is running the Darkmoon Faire event with the return of the four Old Gods and a new keyword called “corrupt.” Blizzard also hinted at what will come in the final phase of the Year of the Phoenix.
“In Phase 3, you can expect several major updates, including balance patches, new Battlegrounds Heroes and minions, a seasonal event, and what was previously spell-locked—updates for Duels, a Mini-Set of 35 cards set for release before the next expansion, and info on another new game mode,” the studio said.
