I like EQ2, but it requires some investment to get up to date.
My main concern is if it will be around much longer, since it is at the bottom of the revenue income stream for the company.
Actually, for new folks the base game for free includes everything up to the last two expansions, and there is plenty to keep you occupied for a long while so you don’t have to buy expansions. For those returning, if you want to get the expansion and hop right in, every expansion includes a boost so you don’t have to invest any time to get to it. Then again, you can get close to expansion level in the free older stuff, but you can’t do Rein of Shadows without completing Blood of Luclin first. Luckily, the expansion will include both.
I have been reading up on it. Just having the boost to expansion level is not going to cut it. The boost does not come with all the absolutely necessary gear and gear buffs needed to do the new expansion content. At least that is the reporting.
In addition, the 90% nerf to Mercs has made doing the lower level content either a massive grind or actually impossible for solo players. And since the populations are in the tank, most of the lower level players are going to be solo.
It’s all sunshine and roses for folks that have the gear and are already at cap to enter the expansion. But for everyone else? Not so much.
They give you free gear that gets you in the expansion, and it is just as good as the quest gear you earn with the signature line, with the added bonus of being socketed. I mean, if you just don’t want to play then cool. But I think they really give you plenty to have a fun experience for as long as you want. As for mercs, I don’t know about any nerf; I hadn’t noticed. and I only duo when I play so is all doable to me.
Ironwu, they all are going to get cancelled some day. If it’s a fun game enjoy your time in there. You’ll have a lot of good memories, made friends, and a great experience. This is any game. Just my opinion.
It’s a matter of money and time. I don’t want to invest either in a failing game. In addition, there seems to be some serious issues with itemization and Mercs with the latest updates.
So, no. Even though I like EQ2, not going to be putting money and time into it.
