With its closest rival staggered after a poor quarterly showing and a brutal stock drop, Riot Games is leaping into the vacuum with a ream of announcements.
The big news this afternoon is that all of Riot’s big free-to-play titles – League of Legends, Valorant, Legends of Runeterra, even Teamfight Tactics – have launched in the Epic Games store. “Established players will still be able to sign into their existing accounts and use their existing friends list,” the companies say. “The new Riot Client began rolling out worldwide earlier this month to players.”
To seal the deal, there’s now a League of Legends cross-promotion toon in Fortnite itself, as LoL’s Jinx launches tonight in the battle royale’s cash shop.
And of course, the company is heavily promoting its RiotX Arcane series to its 600M players and beyond.
However, it’s not all good news for Riot; the Washington Post just ran a piece noting that League of Legends esports still hasn’t made a profit in a decade of effort. Riot says it’s “building” the “future of sport.”
