The Daily Grind: What were the worst mistakes made in the history of MMORPGs?

A few weeks back, in his retrospective on The Secret World, MOP’s Tyler opined that Secret World Legends (or more specifically, the decision to reboot TSW as Secret World Legends, thereby fracturing what little was left of the playerbase) was “one of the worst mistakes made in the history of the MMORPG genre.” The line leaped out at me because I can think of so many on par with this – and I bet you can too.

For today’s Daily Grind, let’s talk about the biggest oopsies in our genre’s 26-ish-year history. As a treat, let’s assume that Star Wars Galaxies NGE has already been entered into the record at the very top, so you don’t have to mention it; I wanna hear about the less-obvious trainwrecks. What were the worst mistakes made in the history of MMORPGs?
