Diablo Immortal’s Spintered Souls update lets players summon helpful (and horrifying) familiars

They’re combat pets! They’re heavy metal Pokemon! They’re familiars, and they’re the tentpole feature of the Splintered Souls update of Diablo Immortal! And just to get this out of the way, yes, they’re just about as terrifying looking as “heavy metal Pokemon” would suggest.

The new familiars system lets players bring along a horror beast along for their mobile OARPG adventures. Familiars come in either ordinary or aberrant varieties and in one of four quality levels, but all of them offer different active skills, passives, boon-granting traits, and their own distinct attributes that change all of the above.

Not only do familiar offer passive and active benefits, they can further be improved through the process of melding two familiars together or using a conversion stone for a chance at a stronger pet. Getting a familiar is done by finding a contract, which can be earned as a loot drop or event reward, purchased from a specific shop for gold, or bought in cash shop bundles.

While heavy metal monsters are the primary feature of the Splintered Souls update, there are other things for players with phones to enjoy such as a new Southern Dreadlands zone complete with its own zone event, five new Helliquary bosses, three new legendary gems, and a host of new events. More information about all of these features can be found in the patch notes.
