Elite Dangerous player summarizes the playable Thargoid War content added throughout 2023

Looking through the updates made to Elite Dangerous in 2023, you’d be forgiven for believing that Frontier Developments spent all of its time fixing the myriad list of bugs and issues with the Odyssey expansion, particularly since any major additions to the ongoing Thargoid War were simply referenced in cryptic clues in some cases (presumably for narrative or spoiler reasons). Lave Radio’s Colin “Pheonix Dfire” Ford has now taken up the challenge of arguing that actual new playable content did indeed happen through last year, outlining the latest features in a pair of videos.

Ford spends these two videos going through Updates 14 through 17, breaking down the new activities that FDev introduced for players to take on, as well as his thoughts on each portion of content. Some of the additions applied that might have been missed by inactive players include the Titan ships awaiting inside Thargoid maelstroms, the ability to rescue captured humans from Titans, and the introduction of Thargoid spires that players could disrupt with a combination of ship-based, on-foot, and SRV gameplay features.

Ford also argues that the bug fixing done over the last four updates have improved the game dramatically, but he also does acknowledge the lack of new content communicated in recent patch notes and brings up several matters that don’t help FDev’s optics such as the game having a single community manager, layoffs, and no new word of a feature revamp that was announced a couple of years ago. Still, for those who have been wondering what’s been happening in the bubble and the black, the videos waiting below provide some useful insight.
