It’s hard for me to believe that Star Wars Galaxies rogue server SWG Legends is officially eight years old this week, but it’s true, and the player-run dev team behind the project are celebrating with a wee patch. Players can log in this week to snag badges and new gift paintings, plus the patch fixed a few bugs with this month’s massive player-city upgrade release.
A companion article recaps the history of the emulator and all of its updates so far, the highlight of which is surely the release of Bespin in 2021. The devs acknowledge 2023 was a bit of a lower-production year with “developers taking a bit of a rest with new content,” though they also fully upgraded the server hardware.
Fun fact, if you peek at the 2022 entry, you’ll see my pre-decorated farm and my Ithorian armorsmith’s cute little butt – and her horribly déclassé trollbait Stinky the Hutt backpack – since they embedded one of my pics here!
The dev blog concludes with another tease for the deep space update.
“As we look into the future, we absolutely have to recognize all of you, our community, for all of your support throughout the years. I speak for the entire SWG:Legends Staff Team when I say it’s because of your support that we are able to still enjoy the game that we all love. It’s because of your support that we will exceeded the total amount of time that SOE had the game live this August. It’s because of your support that we have been able to start year 2024 so strongly with our long awaited City Update 2.0. It’s a safe bet that we will be seeing battles in Deep Space soon, as well as some other fun treats for you all throughout the year.”
