Ubisoft’s The Crew Motorfest announces season 4, fanning the flames of East vs West Coast rivalries

Ubisoft announced a new season for The Crew Motorfest aka The Crew 3 this week: Season 4 launches July 3rd, free for owners of the game, and pits Beast Coast against Best Coast in some friendly gang wars.

“[I]ntroducing the Donk vs Lowrider Playlist, the iconic face-off of car customisation: Donks, pride and joy of the East Coast, versus Lowriders, prized possessions of the West Coast,” Ubisoft says. “Two communities with their own urban identity and specific customisation codes, nourishing a tough rivalry, but sharing a passion for cars: chill on one side, speed on the other, yet with style and swagger for both.”

“In the brand-new Donk vs Lowrider playlist, players will have to choose their side, and learn the specificities of each car culture through 12 main events. Following various workshops and face-offs, they will progressively build a Donk or Lowrider car and impose their style. New gameplay features will also be introduced, such as the Car Dance, a rhythm-based game mode tied to Lowriders’ unique abilities, and the Street Versus, a performance-based mode between Donk cars on a dragstrip.”

We’re expecting more info on the game’s second year plans at Ubisoft Forward next week.

We don’t know how The Crew Motorfest is doing overall, of course; on Steam, it peaked at 1186 players two months ago and has about a third of that still playing regularly with mixed reviews, but we can only assume the console playerbase dwarfs the Steam fans. We can put up a comparison, however: The Crew 2 peaked at over 12K Steam players three tears ago and currently has double the number of Steam gamers playing it over Motorfest, as I type this on Wednesday morning, anyhow.

Readers will remember that Ubisoft’s behavior around the arbitrary sunset of The Crew 1 – including its yanking of the game from player libraries – provoked a firestorm of reviewbombing and even a whole game preservation campaign… none of which can be helping the fledgling Crew Motorfest.
