It’s time once again for the beta testing of World of Warcraft to go into overdrive, as the next expansion is now available for people to beta test. So if you want to play through most of the content now and get burnt out before the expansion actually releases, now is your chance! If that sounds cynical to you, there are two reasons for it: The first is that it absolutely is cynical, and the second is that the expansion’s beta testing access is literally being sold, so it’s worth considering that side of things.
While we all know that Corepunk’s most recent test was the sort of mess that usually requires a cat in a hat and a number of rhyming couplets to create, our own Carlo (who is neither feline nor wearing anything on top of his head… that we know of) shared his thoughts on the experience just the same. Enshrouded has added some musical instruments with its latest update so you can experience that #BardcoreLife, and Pax Dei has opened pre-orders for its upcoming early access launch. All of this is definitely stuff, but sadly it does not even start pretending to work together into any sort of joke framework.
So we’re just going to skip trying to hammer in humor and just direct your gaze down to the roundup of beta news along with the list of games in testing, with the usual caveats of letting us know if we missed something swapping test states or not being on the list altogether. Look, it has been a busy week over here, all right? That expansion beta for WoW isn’t even the wildest thing that happened this week. I need a drink. Anyone want to hit the bar?
We consider an MMO to be in open testing if it features free, public signups and will server wipe prior to launch. An MMO is marked in closed testing if it’s running a private test phase that cannot freely be accessed by the general public; it’s often under NDA as well. Early access and crowdfunded MMOs whose tests we deem legitimate will be included. So-called “open beta” soft-launch MMOs with cash shops, no sign of launch in the west, or limited interest for our readers will not be listed, nor will games that are NFT/blockchain scams; we also do not list expansions, with occasional exceptions. Finally, we’ll mark games “malingering” if they’ve been in a certain tier of development for a long time with no clear path to launch.

Yes, MMO gamers, you too can perform the unpaid quality-control work otherwise known as game testing! Check out Massively Overpowered’s Betawatch every week for a run-down of MMOs that are still on the road to launch, even if they appear to have set up a permanent residence in a shed called early access.
