Readers may remember the floundering launch of sandbox MMORPG Ethyrial: Echoes of Yore, which was bad enough that developer Gellyberry Studios lost its publisher and would’ve ended the game’s life were it not for an angel investor named Ryan swooping in to buy a large stake in the MMO. Since then, Ethyrial has gone free-to-play and added a whole suite of updates over the past year.
Since the last time we peeked in, this angel investor has now completely taken over the game and renamed Gellyberry to Oath Games. Ryan points out that two of the original devs from Gellyberry remain, alongside two additional developers to make up what appears to be a five-person team.
“We’ve been pushing patches every few days and will continue to do so. Why? Because we love the game, our players, and we’ll never succeed in the MMO market without going above & beyond!” the announcement heralds. “We’re committed to respecting your feedback and crafting a game that can be played for years to come. We hope that many more MMO enjoyers will explore Irumesa in the future!”
Indeed the updates to Ethyrial have continued at pace throughout the past few months both before and after this acquisition. Some of the most noteworthy additions include new zones, updates to the UI, mounts, improvements to character creation, and perhaps most crucially, diagonal movement and a 360 degree camera. The most recent patch landed last week, bringing with it a new tutorial zone among other things.
