The Daily Grind: How much of your MMO time is spent on ‘chores’?

Great job

A few months ago, I read a thread on Reddit about chores in MMORPGs, and I remember nodding vigorously because I use the word chores all the time to describe certain types of gameplay in our genre. Granted, sometimes it’s chores I create for myself; absolutely nobody is making me track my sales or vendor inventory. I do that for myself.

But others are built in to the game, like going through email, checking auctions, cleaning crap out of your inventory, monitoring your friends list, setting up your achievement tracker, getting your interface just right, sorting your quests, on and on… I like some of these things, but I know they can easily take up more of my time than killing stuff and crafting.

How much of your MMO time is spent on something you’d consider “chores” rather than gameplay?

Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers team up with mascot Mo to ask MMORPG players pointed questions about the massively multiplayer online roleplaying genre. Grab a mug of your preferred beverage and take a stab at answering the question posed in today’s Daily Grind!
