Jagex’s RuneScape-themed fan festival RuneFest has not had the best luck the last few years. Jagex had to cancel it back in 2020 for pandemic reasons, and it hadn’t brought back the event until this year. But a few weeks ago, organizers had to cancel this year’s RuneFest abruptly too, owing to the fact that the UK gaming company that was spearheading the event imploded spectacularly and laid off all its staff, apparently not even bothering to communicate with its partner Jagex. That left the studio to reluctantly cancel the September event, promising to allow players to refund or transfer their ticket to the replacement event, whenever it might be.

Well, now we know when whenever actually is: Jagex announced this morning that it’ll now be held March 1-2 at the NEC in Birmingham, UK.

“We will now be running RuneFest as an independent event and not in conjunction with Insomnia. We are no less ambitious about delivering an excellent value event with all the stunning immersive experiences and community atmosphere you would expect. All existing tickets will transfer automatically (meaning you don’t need to do anything) to the new dates, and we’ll be selling an additional 1000 tickets (plus any others that we refund), meaning RuneFest will be bigger than ever! We expect these new tickets to go on sale later in the summer, and you’ll be given plenty of notice to get ready for it.”

Jagex does say that it will grant full refunds to players who can’t make the new dates or who had camping tickets that were associated with Insomnia, just note you’ll have to manually request those refunds.

“Lastly we’d like to again apologise for the disruption caused, we appreciate that this has impacted many of your plans, and we really do appreciate you giving us the time to make RuneFest happen,” Jagex says. “We’ll share more information about tickets and event details as soon as we’re able. Until then – we’re really looking forward to bringing our wonderful community together again in March 2025!”
