Did you know that World of Warcraft is adding an arachnophobia mode?

We totally understand that spiders aren’t everyone’s cup of tea, especially if they’re in your tea, perhaps doing a backstroke while looking up at you with impunity. For those who experience dread of spiders — the technical name for it is “EW KILL IT KILL IT!” — encountering them in MMORPGs may be the low point of any adventuring session.

That’s why it’s cool when some games offer a way to remove that fear from your vision, such as World of Warcraft. In fact, it may have gone overlooked by some that Blizzard’s game is adding an Arachnophobia Mode with The War Within which will transform all eight-legged critters into crabs. Also, lobsters.

Apparently this mode also changes up the visuals for spider mounts and pets so that other players can’t grief you and make you cower in fear. Blizzard said that it’s adding this mode not just for the players but also for several developers who also have an aversion to spiders. And considering that The War Within is jam-packed with arachnids, this is timely.
