RuneFest was unfortunately pushed off into next year thanks to circumstances beyond Jagex’s control – but the studio has found ways to deliver info about RuneScape’s upcoming content anyway via RuneScape Ahead 2024-2024, its revitalized video presentation. And yes, it’s basically the roadmap y’all have been (very reasonably) demanding all year.
This fall, Jagex is planning to launch a skilling update for mining and smithing, new Underworld tasks, the Sanctum of Rebirth boss dungeon, the Gate of Elidinis hunt, and the new story quest dubbed Ode of the Devourer. By the end of the year, we’re looking at the group iron man mode, phantom guardian conjuring for necromancers, a new Halloween event called Harvest Hollow (yes, new in 2024!), a desert-themed story quest, another skilling update (this one for woodcutting and fletching), and the return of the Christmas Village event.
The roadmap goes deeper into 2025 as well; across the remainder of winter and into spring, we’re looking at a runecrafting update, the continuation of Desert Quest II, a skilling rebalance, the Blooming Burrow event, and a new combat boss.
Early 2025 will also be punctuated by the new RuneFest in March, and then in “later 2025,” expect a “new area expansion.” The teaser for next year’s expansion is tucked at the end of the video below around the 10-minute mark, but it’s not giving much away. Two hands of a person on a boat on the water open up an animated map with clouds and a dragon, with the sounds of sea birds in the background. Make of that what you will.
