Tencent’s Blue Protocol Mobile goes into closed beta testing in China (sigh)

Hey, remember when Blue Protocol completely ended the Japanese version and western launch? Yeah, that still really stings, thanks for bringing it up. As the MMO community gives a world-weary sigh over another promising title biting the dust before it ever comes out, there is word from the east that Blue Protocol isn’t completely finished just yet.

Don’t get your hopes up that high, however: It’s just the mobile version that’s continuing to go forward. A Redditor posted a screenshot from the Tencent-Bandai Namco project showing that Blue Protocol Mobile had gone into closed beta testing for both Windows and Android.

As we absorb that dubious consolation prize, it’s worth reading our recent column on when, exactly, did Blue Protocol die. Eliot wrote, “Blue Protocol launched to tepid sales in Japan and struggled to even retain its launch audience. Bamco was legally obligated to block people from outside of Japan trying to connect, and that didn’t help audience retention. By the time localization work had begun, it was almost certainly already too late for a company already struggling with revenues and cash flow.”
