Whatever happened to historical war MMO World War II Online?

It’s been quite a while since we peered in on Cornered Rat Software’s historical war MMO World War II Online, but that’s not because the studio has been idle, with updates to the game overall and progress made to its future-leaning projects. Still, it’s been long enough that we’re going to answer Whatever Happened To this one.

We’ll start with some of the most recent headlines, which include the beginning of the game’s 206th campaign in the middle of August after the Allies side won the last campaign as well as a fix for players who were unable to respawn a vehicle; the update is a behind-the-scenes fix so that does unfortunately require that players uninstall and reinstall the entire game to get things working.

Otherwise the devs have been working through their 2024 update roadmap, adding things like new quad guns, new tanks, and multiple revamps for the game’s older models. There’s some forward movement on “WW2O 2.0″ as well, which is primarily focused on rebuilding the game in Unreal Engine 5 and ultimately plans to bring together the base game and the early access FPS WW2O: Chokepoint together into one game.

On the subject of Chokepoint, CRS has gotten the shooter operational in UE5 complete with a host of fixes and updates. The goal is to have key holders of the FPS access to this build at some point before the end of the year, though the studio does still point out that while “real tangible progress” has been made and that the project is gaining momentum, this will be an alpha version of UE5 and will require much more work.
