PSA: Overwatch 2 is clearancing out old Overwatch League skins, get ’em while you can

Remember the Overwatch League? It’s OK if that slipped your mind considering the meteoric crash of the marquee esports league Blizzard constructed for Overwatch: It had a powerful start in 2018 but fell prey to COVID-19, Blizzard’s scandals, the sponsor exodus, esports layoffs, and ultimately the end of the league last year after six seasons as teams took a severance payout and walked away. The league has since been replaced by the open format Overwatch Champions Series (OWCS).

As the inaugural OWCS season draws to a close this month, we’re reminding any interested fans of either OW2 or the now-deceased OWL of a so-called “inventory sale” that’s still ongoing over the next week. Blizzard has unvaulted several OWL-themed cosmetics over the course of September 10th and October 15th, including a variety of character skins; this week will bring back Luchador Reaper, Royal Knight Mercy, Happi Genji, and Clockwork Zenyatta.

After that point, non-team branded cosmetics will move into the OW2 cash shop, while the OWL store will remain online until “at least” December 2025 for those who still happen to have OWL tokens in their digital pocket. After that point, those tokens will be transferred into a different OW2 currency to be determined later and the OWL as anyone ever knew it will be gone forever.
