I’ve been playing a lot of Guild Wars 2 lately, and my fellow fans will know that traditional escort quests aren’t just present in the game; they’re bread-and-butter content thanks to their popularity in the dynamic quest system. And you know, I’ve realized that I actually look forward to those quests because the NPCs often don’t suck. Some of them can just about carry the event even if you’re being super lazy or are just learning a new spec or have brought a menagerie of small children along. Plus, they usually help with fast heart completion.
It’s such a dramatic difference compared to other MMOs, where I see an escort quest and my heart sinks because I know the NPC is gonna be a load – a magnet for mobs, no help at all, and likely to zing off and die. Or just creep along slowly while I fall asleep!
So I want to talk about other MMOs that have genuinely good escorts quests. If I am looking for this type of content, where else do I go where it doesn’t suck?
