It’s been quite a while since the PC and mobile collectible card game Elder Scrolls Legends crossed our desk, but that would make sense considering the game went into maintenance mode in 2019. Unfortunately, maintenance mode will soon be over as will the game, as developer Sparkypants confirmed the game will go dark on Thursday, January 30th, 2025.
Players were informed of this shutdown via a popup message upon login, which confirmed the shutdown date and made all game store items available for one gold each. The game appears to still be up for installation for mobile devices but has been delisted on Steam. Player reaction to the news has run a pretty broad spectrum, from frustration and anger to several sorrowful goodbyes from long-standing players. There’s even a farewell tournament planned for January 25th.
Readers will remember that Legends hit the ground running for its release, and while Bethsoft handed development off to new studio Sparkypants for a full reboot – a move that wasn’t initially well-received by gamers – it continued to receive expansion updates up until its aforementioned maintenance mode. But now it’s all going away.
