Buried in the big roadmap and season servers announcement from New World yesterday was the revelation that Amazon is also preparing a free trial to rope in new players for Aeternum – on console, anyhow. It’s not available to PC players on Steam.
“We are excited to announce that New World: Aeternum is now available to try for free on both Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5,” the company says. “Players on both platforms can now try New World: Aeternum before purchasing the full game. All progress from the Free Trial will carry over to the full game after purchase. All you need to do is download the free trial from your platform’s store and enjoy a seamless introduction to the game. When the trial ends, you have the option to purchase the game and continue your adventure without interruption.”
Do note that players on Xbox Series X|S still have to have paid for their Game Pass subscription, and PS5 players still need to be paying for a PlayStation Plus sub, so it’s more like a trial for people who already sub to these services and just want to try out the B2P game.
The trial is also only four hours long, triggered when you log into a server (PS5) or boot up the game (Xbox). And once you’re in there, you won’t be able to access the trading post, give things to other players, access guild treasuries, or tip players.
