This week, we’ve been covering the devastation in Southern California as multiple wildfires are rampaging through Los Angeles, destroying tens of thousands of homes and buildings and leaving around half a dozen people dead, with no end in sight. And unfortunately, we’ve seen multiple game studios affected, as MMO studios like Blizzard and Fantastic Pixel Castle are located in the region. In fact, yesterday afternoon, Riot Games announced it was closing its West LA offices for everything but “critical functions.”
If you’re sitting on the other side of the country – or the world – right now, wondering what you can do, you could always do what Warframe and Soulframe developer Digital Extremes did and donate to the California Fire Foundation.
“We are heartbroken over the ongoing devastation in California,” the Canadian studio announced last night. “To help, Digital Extremes has donated $10,000 USD to @CAFireFound to support relief efforts. Words fall short at times like these. Please stay safe and help if you can.”
That’s the California Fire Foundation, specifically. Former First Lady of California Maria Shriver tweeted a whole list of additional local agencies delivering aid, including the Red Cross, Calfund Wildfire Recovery Fund, the LA Food Bank, and the non-profit Watch Duty. [Added: Here’s another great list of vetted orgs helping.]
