Cozy gamers, we’ve got another fun little co-op title on deck. It’s called Hidalgo, and I have to say we’ve never seen anything quite like it. Spanish developer Infinite Thread Games explains that it’s actually based on Miguel de Cervantes’ Don Quixote. (“Hidalgo” is a noble designation.)
“Hidalgo is a cozy and wholesome adventure of Don Quijote of La Mancha, with unique art that simulates a handmade tabletop model. It allows you to experience the story with innovative mechanics, awesome landscapes and interesting boss fights together with a family rediscovering themselves. […] Throughout five chapters, you’ll relive the most iconic moments of the novel, playing as Don Quijote and Sancho. You’ll have the chance to battle windmills and even rule an island, all in the quest to win the heart of your beloved Dulcinea.”
The game funded in Kickstarter back in April for €51,288 and is already on Steam with a demo. It’s all very cute and kid-friendly; wait until you see the Windmill Giant boss. It actually has a bit of the Little Big Planet vibe, for good reasons. Amusingly, Steam informs me that it’s similar to Minecraft Dungeons, which… is probably not true (the devs themselves liken it to things like It Takes Two). It does include co-op, however, so we’ll keep an eye on it!
