CIG is still hoping to drive player interest in Star Citizen’s alpha 3.23 as the studio focused on the upcoming new build in its weekly Star Citizen Live video, which took on several members of the dev team to answer player questions about the patch.

A few of the tidbits to come out of the hour-long broadcast include confirmation of econ changes like material costs that were described as close to those planned for full release, word of mission reward adjustments that take into account things like risk and time, and the likelihood of a full wipe due to players hoarding credits. The devs also checked in with an update on delayed personal hangars, saying that an internal build is functioning but still has some kinks to iron out.

Meanwhile, CIG has confirmed the date for the Invictus Launch Week free-fly event, which despite its name will be a 13-day affair this time around, starting on Friday, May 17th. The landing page currently shows details on what ship manufacturers will be on display and confirms the opportunity to tour an Idris.

Interestingly, this event has a date but alpha 3.23 does not, though an earlier video from CIG promised Invictus and alpha 3.23 would arrive at the same time. In any case, there are multiple videos about the whole shebang waiting after the cut.

Longtime MMORPG gamers will know that Star Citizen was originally Kickstarted for over $2M back in 2012 with a planned launch for 2014. As of 2024, it still lingers in an incomplete but playable alpha, having raised over $650M from gamers over years of continuing crowdfunding and sales of in-game ships and other assets. It is currently the highest-crowdfunded video game ever and has endured both indefatigable loyalty from advocates and immense skepticism from critics. A co-developed single-player title, Squadron 42, has also been repeatedly delayed.
