Well this was not how I expected the Wayfinder story to continue, with the game basically dropping its online elements altogether. Now, it’s not quite that simple, and we’ve even got a full interview about exactly this. But it is a surprising turnaround just the same.
Elsewhere, Abyss has finally moved into early access after numerous delays, although I recommend you read that full story because this is one of those titles where the receipts are important. And we did bring receipts. Tarisland has also announced another test, Seekers of Skyveil opened up testing in the EU, and Palia was impacted by another round of layoffs that is going to leave all of us a fair bit worried about the game’s future. Crap. Are any of the stories this week not worrisome?
The answer to the question in today’s topline summary is “no,” but you can check out our full list of games in testing and maybe you’ll decide some of the answer is “yes” after all! We’ll leave that up to you, and after you’ve checked out those stories we’ll also leave you to check out our full list of games in testing. As always, if you notice something that’s skipped to another test phase without us noticing, let us know down in the comments.
We consider an MMO to be in open testing if it features free, public signups and will server wipe prior to launch. An MMO is marked in closed testing if it’s running a private test phase that cannot freely be accessed by the general public; it’s often under NDA as well. Early access and crowdfunded MMOs whose tests we deem legitimate will be included. So-called “open beta” soft-launch MMOs with cash shops, no sign of launch in the west, or limited interest for our readers will not be listed, nor will games that are NFT/blockchain scams; we also do not list expansions, with occasional exceptions. Finally, we’ll mark games “malingering” if they’ve been in a certain tier of development for a long time with no clear path to launch.

Yes, MMO gamers, you too can perform the unpaid quality-control work otherwise known as game testing! Check out Massively Overpowered’s Betawatch every week for a run-down of MMOs that are still on the road to launch, even if they appear to have set up a permanent residence in a shed called early access.
