Reign of Guilds shows off environments, castles, and magic in latest dev blog

The latest dev blog for Russian indie dev Atlant Games’s upcoming Reign of Guilds has a veritable smorgasbord of detailed information about various facets of the game, ranging from the technical tools being used to create the open world to the game’s magic system and more. A great deal of the blog post is devoted to discussing the design and creation of the game’s open world, detailing the tools the devs are using in order to generate the world’s mountains, forests, streams, and other natural splendors. It also takes a look at the first of the game’s counties, called Daerkunn, which the blog post says is about 50% complete.

The dev blog also delves into the construction of the castles that will play key roles in the game’s guild-vs-guild warfare. From simple wooden outposts to grand stone citadels, the team is aiming to provide a diverse array of locations for players to kill each other over. In addition, the post highlights some of the elemental magic players will be able to wield as well as detailing the game’s inventory and trading systems. If you’re interested in checking out this behind-the-scenes look at Reign of Guilds’s development, you can check out the full post over on the game’s official site.

Reign of Guilds moves toward alpha testing, talks about the game’s creation

With 15 developers now on staff and progression toward an alpha build, Reign of Guilds is slowly but surely taking shape as a hardcore medieval MMORPG sim.

The team said that it has packed up its public prototype and will be restricting the upcoming alpha to “ROG Club” participants who have supported the game. “ROG club membership is not a reward or present — this is our appeal to the active players to participate in test, share feedback, discuss classified information and so on,” the studio said.

In the first episode of the game’s developer diary, the team discusses how it is creating Reign of Guilds’ code, visual effects, animations, models, and locations. You can watch the full rundown after the jump.

Fight to the top in Reign of Guilds’ hardcore medieval world

Is there room enough in this industry for another self-proclaimed hardcore, old school MMORPG with all of the PvP fixins? Russian-based Atlant Games is betting that there is, as it’s deep in development with a medieval title called Reign of Guilds.

A cross between a kingdom simulator and a guild sieges, Reign of Guilds thrust players into a fantasy realm where they will vie for power, control, and territory. It’s all hard edges here, with full partial corpse looting, non-target combat, friendly fire, and the tantalizing possibility of clawing your way to the top to become the realm’s king.

Reign of Guilds has 10 months of development under its belt and is already wielding a prototype that has a few dozen players testing it. The studio said that it plans on launching a Kickstarter campaign for it in the future.
