AdventureQuest 3D is launching cross-platform this October

What began as a cute RPG parody in flash back in 2002 will soon become a true cross-platform MMORPG. Artix Entertainment announced today that AdventureQuest 3D will be launching in October following an open beta test in July.

In a "MegaUpdate" last week, the team talked about all of the progress being made on the title, including the switch to Unity 5 and the preparations for an "imminent" expansion of the pre-beta test to Steam users. Core game features are firmly established, a new interface was added, and the team has been hard at work tweaking and improving combat and AI.

The fantasy MMO will come out on Steam, Android, and iOS, with the possibility of a Windows 10 release as well. The title raised over $368,000 on Kickstarter at the start of the year.

"AdventureQuest 3D is more than a jump spinning vorpal punch of nostalgia," said Project Lead Adam Bohn. "As a true-cross platform game, AdventureQuest 3D will change the way we play together."

jhuynh405 Yeah, more or less. It's a pretty simple UI.

I haven't played an Artix Entertainment game since....well since I got a job and could afford to buy better games. Good on them, if they're doing something worth writing about.

playerxx Definitely heavy cash shop. Arguable if it will be pay2win, thought: they have no qualms selling weapons and armor only available through the shop, but in my opinion, the there really isn't anything to win in their games.

playerxx And a lot of limited time available items for money. I used to play their 2D AdventureQuest Worlds for a long time, and the primary gameplay was to collect rare items which AE released every friday. Started out not too bad with rare items in AQW, but later on it got much more obnoxious when AE found out that players would fork many, many $$ for a chance at limited time only items.

I think if it going to be Unity 5 and available on Steam, it is pretty much going to have to be Windows 10 compatible.
