Final Fantasy XIV Heavensward’s spoiler-filled trailer

FFXIV
We’re going to tell you this right up front: if you haven’t yet done the patch 2.55 story quests and don’t want to be spoiled, do not watch the Heavensward trailer past the break. It’s very closely tied into the end of Final Fantasy XIV‘s most recent storyline and reveals more of what players can look forward to in the journey to Ishgard and beyond. Consider yourself fairly warned before you watch.

You can safely take a look at all of the information revealed during today’s live letter with producer and director Naoki Yoshida, though. There are no spoilers, just a general preview of what’s coming in Heavensward including the new scrip system for crafting and gathering, new Allagan tomestones, eight new dungeons, new looting systems for high-end content, and more. It should be more than enough to make Final Fantasy XIV players quite happy and excited, even if we have to wait until June to try all of it out for ourselves.

Sobach Dude I decided to drop this and go away. Maybe you should do the same. You are not getting my points. I get yours but we aren’t hitting the same discussion. I’m done with this topic. I see your point that this is a lore video about the story  and blah blah blah reasons reasons reasons. My argument is this is a very bad expansion trailer. I don’t know why you think Warriors of light that there is only one because they are constantly discussed in the plural throughout the story. Sure your guy is the main guy (plus mr placeholder) but that doesn’t mean that the ones you are running with in dungeons and raids aren’t. I get it, don’t think you are. Take care.

No, I have not been to blizzcon, nor will I ever – can’t give less shit about WoW if I tried.
You have the exact same issue as Loyheta, both
of you are looking for a damn axe body spray commercial for HW – which
is fine, and there are various videos out there with the details of
upcoming content that you want.  Why you guys are
looking for said commercial in the opening cinematics, I have no
fucking clue. Did you bitch about the lack of showing the different
classes in Diablo’s opening cinematic? Or Starcraft?  I mean, why
couldn’t have Tyrael gave a quick summary of the new classes
in D3?  And maybe Tycho could’ve bust out a power point slide showing
all the Terran units you’re going to get in the game?
And I see you have just as much of a lack of
basic understanding of the game’s story, all the more ironic since both
of you whine about how it’s a misrepresentation when you don’t even have
a basic grasp on it.
Again, THERE IS ONLY ONE WARRIOR OF LIGHT,   and
jebus, the Scions marked for the murder of Nanamo?  No, how about it’s
because the 2.55 story ended with the Scions seemingly dead?  As much as
everyone expects them to not actually be dead,
showing them in the trailer would be kind of an obvious give-away,
don’t you think?  And the Crystal Braves are NOT the Grand Company of
the Scions, they were specifically created to help Eorzea when/where the
other 3 GCs and the Scions are unable to do so
– they are not in anyway obedient to the Scions.
The only one misrepresenting stuff here is you.

@Loyheta
This is the opening movie for Heavensward, it’s just like the End of an Era video at the end of 1.0/beginning of 2.0, hence the focus on the story – which is a signature component of the FF franchise in case you haven’t noticed(and as far as I can see you haven’t). The Derplander has been the “stand in” for player character since the beginning of 1.0, and yes, there IS ONLY ONE Warrior of Light in the story – the character you’re playing with. How can you not realize this after so long is beyond comprehension. What, did you think there was a clone facility popping out Gaius to be repeatedly killed over and over again by various WoL?
What you’re doing is akin to bitching about, say, the Eve Valkyrie trailer, because they showed major fleets of singular racial composition in formation that warps on top of each other to fight instead of blap fleets of deathballs hotdropping each other. What you want is for the opening cinematics of Heavensward to be some sort of herp derp COMMERCIAL.

Sobach Are you serious? Have you ever been to Blizzcon, to see their cinematics? Have you seen or heard the outcries of races unrepresented in intro cinematics? The rage-filled posts of people demanding to see their races in glorious cinematic goodness, especially knowing the quality that Square-Enix produces?
The Mi’quote Race (and I play a Lalafell, so I am not biased in this respect) is arguably THE MOST popular race in FFXIV. Not represented at all – not even a random SOLDIER.
The Roegadyn Race, the most underappreciated race of all, not remotely represented.
The Draconic Au’Ra Race – THE BRAND NEW RACE THEY’RE PUTTING INTO THE GAME – not even remotely represented.
And you think that there’s no point behind this? How about using the cinematic to promote all the new stuff they’re putting in? The Dark Knights, the Astrologians, the Machinists – the ability to fly?
Also, where are the rest of the warriors of light? Where are the Scions of the Seventh Dawn? Cid isn’t even THEIR LEADER and they’re not in the trailer at all, but he is. At very, VERY LEAST… Why is Alphinaud not represented with him?(Yes, I’m aware of the story that has the scions marked for the murder of Nanamo, but Alphinaud has started his own GRAND COMPANY DEDICATED TO THE SCIONS.) – Misrepresented.
The intro of an expansion pack doesn’t tell just the story – it highlights the differences between the first game and its expansion.
Don’t get me wrong, it’s a pretty trailer, but it doesn’t deserve to be the intro cinematic given its intense amount of mis-representation of a myriad of things.

Sobach Main story elements, fair point; parade all races, idiotic;pointless, maybe if you have no concept of player representation.
What would you get out of it… maybe it wouldn’t feel like a hollow trailer. Is this telling me that there is only 1 hero of light in all of this and it is a boring Hyur. I honestly can’t say the last time I saw a droll human that wasn’t an npc. Why doesn’t this trailer have more heroes of light? Yeah I know that when it comes to questing it is (forced) solo. But I know for damn sure that there are hundreds of heroes of light. Majority of them miquo’te.
The point is moot. The trailer is made and it is about 1 human and the story. Sure they could have had a bunch of heroes fighting in there but I guess that would be jarring. I must have missed the ‘only humans and elezen allowed’ sign. They could have had the focused character their new race sporting the new class but I suppose this was done long ago or it would have been forced.
I guess I just expected a nice rounded trailer involving the heroes fighting to protect the land… ya know like ARR’s trailer.

SorriorDragneel This makes a lot more sense than the other people arguing. Saying adding other races would be forced is idiotic at best.. but saying that we get to travel around everywhere while most npcs stick closer to their own regions… great point

and your point is? the trailer is showcasing the main story elements with focus on the end of 2.55 and 3.0, not a “parade all the races” exhibition, which frankly would be so pointless it boogles the mind.
exactly what would inserting random roeg standing next to lolorito or a miquote inexplicably in ishgard add?

Not sure that has anything to do with my comment, as a not so proud owner of the original CE of 1.0 I’m well aware of that fact.
The point I was making was that it was the polygon count on top of everything else that gave it the more detailed look. Wanting “Hi res textures” from 1.0 doesn’t make any sense

exeeter DPandaren djriful it was Windows only, there wasn’t any console releases with FFXIV 1.0 and the game ran terrible.
