History of EVE Online book rolls first copies off the printing press

EVE Online’s player history is a massive, ever-shifting entity, and one man is making good on his dream and promise to put it into writing.

A History of the Great Empires of EVE Online, a Kickstarter project by writer Andrew Groen, funded and then some back in mid-2014. Since then Groen has been slaving away on the stories of the grand in-game player epics with the help of an illustrator. A couple of days ago he was able to announce that the proof copies of the book were mailed to him for final approval before printing. He took several pictures of the pages and brought it with him to PAX this past weekend.

“Thank you all for your patience,” he posted. “You’ve all been so wonderful and supportive over the past 17 months. We added some time to the project delivery window by adding the hardcover book, but it was worth it. We’re a bit behind schedule, but the finish line is in sight.”

Groen initially sought $12,500 to fund the book but received over $95,000 by the end of the campaign. He made it clear that this was a fan project and not connected to CCP apart from general support from the studio.

well would by it but would depend how he tell History… so many possibilities to be biased
Wonder what he say about ASCN and ASCN and bob War and if he sqpeak about T20 incident, if not, it’s not a book about eve history

I’d like a retelling of the wondrous tales of the M00 gang and how they griefed the EVE galaxy so hard that CCP had to ASSUME DIRECT CONTROL of a Concord fleet just to take them on.

This is a really interesting thing. I have never played EvE outside of the tutorial years ago and I found the game prohibitively off putting but I will most definitely be getting this book. I find EvE fascinating.

Pretty sure reading the book is still more exciting than the game play haha.

This is a unique moment in MMO history. Hopefully there will be more games worth writing “player history” books about.

I forgot about this but will definitely purchase it for nostalgia’s sake when it will be actually available for sale. Would be very interesting to see how accurate and how detailed his description is about some events ;-)

Wow didnt know about this. EVE history and battle reports are always fun to read. But I dont like blank front cover. Imo there should be some EVE’s art.
