Neverwinter trade bar store bait-and-switch causes community stir

Neverwinter’s Xbox One community has had to live with the fact that its version of the game would always be lagging behind the PC edition in regard to updates. Now console players have to grapple with a trade bar store that is lacking several options that are present on the PC, and they do not like it one bit.

Cryptic has announced on the forums that the Tarmalune Trade Bar Store for the Xbox One doesn’t offer the full array of goods as the PC version: “As some of you have noticed, there are a few differences between the Tarmalune Trade Bar Store on PC and Xbox. In particular, the Wards and Gems tab does not include Blood Rubies, Preservation Wards, or Coalescent Wards. We just wanted to let you know that this is intentional. Though they may show up at some point in the future, they are not supposed to be there with the launch of Neverwinter: Underdark on Xbox One.”

This change goes against a statement posted several months ago in which the studio promised players that coalescent wards would not be taken out of the Xbox One store as well as a developer blog in which prices for the now-yanked items were clearly displayed.

While the studio said that players shouldn’t expect “exact parity” between the platforms, the negative reaction to the announcement prompted the studio to update the announcement by saying that it is reviewing feedback and discussing what to do from here.

Cryptic posted this follow-up statement earlier today:

“First off, I want to say that we appreciate the continued feedback and are listening to absolutely everything that is being said right now. Our team is having discussions about the situation regarding the Trade Bar store item removals and the adjustment to the scheduled events, and are looking at what we can do. I know this isn’t the answer that everyone wants right now and that swift action is requested. We aren’t ready for that just yet, but are discussing options.

A full formal response will be coming (hopefully tomorrow as we continue our investigation), but we want to make sure that our community knows that we do hear everything that you are saying.”

Ah, good ole’ Cryptic/PWE — the politician of MMO dev/pubs. Nothing but lies, damn lies and backpedaling!
Just like a typical politician, they’ll tell you anything you want to here to get you on board, then, come up with a million excuses for whatever they can’t seem to simply cover up.
People really need to think twice about giving this kind of company their hard-earned money. I looove me some D&D and Forgotten Realms, but I am long since done with the Cryptic/PWE shenanigans.
Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me!
Truly a travesty that they are the ones that undeservedly got one of the best IPs on the planet!

From the article…
“As some of you have noticed, there are a few differences between the Tarmalune Trade Bar Store on PC and Xbox.”
…which suggests Cryptic announced after the fact and not before.

ManastuUtakata I get the sentiment but the reason players noticed is because they came out and told us. So it doesn’t add up in this case. They didn’t expect us to notice something they went out of their way to tell us?

They actually DID do a ninja edit. Someone posted a cached version of the post from February 4th that says absolute 0 about the xbox version being different from the PC version. So they did do a ninja edit sometime later on the 4th or after…Nevermind the fact that none of the patch notes mentioned anything about the changes to the previously announced upcoming changes.

TheDonDude For the record: Neverwinter’s lockboxes include a currency called tarmalune trade bars. They’re sort of a consolation prize since getting the cool mounts and such is very rare. Stack up enough of them and you can spend them in the trade bar store for various gear, some of which are the very useful and much in-demand wards.

Snky Marketing and/or accounting, because short-term-ism is rampant in both.

TheDonDude  Titles are hard! It’s a specific store in the game so I can’t just put “cash shop” or somesuch, but it’s a weirdly titled store that comes off as all sorts of awkward.

ManastuUtakata My thought would be that ‘they’ (the devs, the community team) knew it would cause a ruffle, but the Suits (who’s connection to reality is always tenuous at best) probably refused to let anyone say anything about it.
