The Daily Grind: Which MMORPG has the best cosmetics system?

Cosmetics, costumes, transmogrification, appearance tab — whatever you want to call them, cosmetic systems are a big deal in MMORPGs in 2016. While you could get away without one in 2006, that just isn’t so anymore: MMO players do not want to look like mismatched hobos wearing piecemeal armor just for stats, and that’s exactly what themeparks made them do.

Star Wars Galaxies didn’t have the first such system by far, but I remember the post-NGE a-tab fondly — and I remember the day the patch went in and tailors and smiths across the servers scrambled to make invisible clothes and armor! I have good memories of Lord of the Rings Online’s early system as well, not so much for the mechanics as for the sheer quality of the wearables, from backpacks and cooking pans to gowns and mighty fine hats.

But there are plenty of other great systems, some of them built-in right from the beginning. Which MMORPG has the very best cosmetics system and why?

Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers team up with mascot Mo to ask MMORPG players pointed questions about the massively multiplayer online roleplaying genre. Grab a mug of your preferred beverage and take a stab at answering the question posed in today’s Daily Grind!
