Sub-based survival MMORPG The Skies hits Steam early access next week

Survival MMORPG The Skies is launching what developer Eforb is calling closed Steam early access next week on April 8th, with an open early access alpha to follow on the 16th and beta chasing “soon after.” Launch is anticipated for “later this year.” Players who buy in before May 15th will pick up a $15 lifetime membership; after launch, the game’s premium version will run $10 a month.

“During the first month of Steam Early Access April 16th to May 15th, players will be offered a unique lifetime membership in The Skies via the Lifetime Premium Package, priced at $15. This limited offer enables players who upgrade to a Premium Account during the launch to retain this privilege without any further need for a subscription. After the end of the launch period, Premium Accounts will revert to a monthly subscription-based model priced at $10.”

The Skies is a mix of FPS and RPG adapted to a multiplayer game in a big post-apocalyptic world,” says American-Ukrainian indie studio Eforb. “Features include a unique role system, and economy that entirely depends on players, non-linear dialogues and quests, clan wars, PVP/TVT combats, and much, much more.”

Is it really an MMORPG? Eforb argues yes — with a twist.

“This game has a different take on MMORPG because the storyline isn’t linear – it’s up to a player to create their own game reality and decide on their own role in it, which makes the game open both solo and team players. The main rule is simple: each action leads to changes in different spheres of the game world: characters’ relations, events, etc. While a player is deeply immersed in the game world and trying to find their place there, other players constantly change it with their actions. Wars between clans, seized or liberating cities and resource production and improvement of economic conditions depend on players.”

MorpayneRADIO Ceois Well after playing Rust and the likes for a while I kinda lost my appetite for mindless killing. I for one do not taste it anymore.

The game looks promising but if it will be full on PVP and full loot than I will pass.

It reminds me of Fallen Earth which I loved….

…..meh….

Trailer looks pretty nice, but it scares me that the site is not updated since so long. Site, forums looks like it is dead. It’s like for that team going with this game to Steam is the last option to get some money… Look for Gloria Victis, ARK and some other few “early access” titles – people who work on those games update their news very frequently, so you can actually see what are they working on.

jesseschulkers MorpayneRADIO Ceois  Just a point of clarification with regards to Ark.

I think it is a bit strong to define the Ark  PVE servers as “pure pve mode” if by definition you mean that players have no ability to kill other players and a few other things.

1. Players pretty frequently grief others with wild dinos (mpvp basically).
2. Going to war with a tribe can be done on pve servers if both tribes accept, allowing deaths of players their dinos and destruction of structures as well.

Sounds like Fallen Earth.  What they have to get right is the crafting.  That’s what made FE a good survival-themed game:  most of your gear was self-crafted.
Which reminds me, I probably need to check back in with FE.  Been well over a year now.

Umm am I missing something?…the source for the article says ‘Press release, official site’ but when I go to the site I can’t find anything, and the 3 articles on the banner are from December 2014, that’s not a typo – 2014. This alone puts me off completely, no news in over a year and failing to keep the site up to date.

Would be nice if the source link actually took you directly to the source! I can’t find where this information is supposedly quoted from and therefore can’t seem to find a way to verify the information given regarding the lifetime thing.

MorpayneRADIO Ceois I think his main gripe is that we have a massive saturation of sandbox games that include Full loot and full or near total pvp. Name me sandboxes that do not have full loot 24/7 pvp. There are only a few that come to mind and they are not MMOs. ARK Survival Evolved has a pure PVE mode, 7 Days to Die has one too. And two MMOs. Trove and Skysaga.
Now you look at every single other sandbox game, mmo or not, and it has pvp that just cannot be disabled. I like my full loot pvp sandboxes quite a bit myself but there are a crazy amount of them who just focus on the players as the games content.

ThirteenBlackbirds if someone hands you a bag of trash, tells you it is $15 today but $100 tomorrow are you going to buy it?  To save some money on the trash?
