Planet Nomads launches early access today

Planet Nomads is officially launching into early access this morning on Steam. The sci-fi survival sandbox was originally slated for an April launch but missed that window, instead allowing the backers of its $140,000 2016 Kickstarter to play closed beta this past month.

“Living the nomadic life is full of danger,” developer Craneballs says. “And adventure, sure. But mostly danger.” The studio is touting the game’s colorful universe, “LEGO-style building on a large scale,” and an actual in-game goal for dedicated players: designing and flying a “spaceship capable of interplanetary travel.” Multiplayer was one of the “future features” mentioned during the Kickstarter; the Steam page says that multiplayer is one of the things it now means to consider “eventually” as the early access wears on.

When the game is live today, expect it to be on sale for 10% off for its base price of $30. We’ve got the early access trailer for your eyeballs down below, and you can check out our early stream of the game too!

On the one hand, I haaaaate how much people seem to loathe and despise survival games and wish them misfortune by default, because it’s honestly a fun genre. There’s nothing quite like it. I hate puzzle games, but I don’t want the genre to die out because I know other people enjoy them and I want them to have their fun.

On the other hand, this particular title doesn’t look fully fleshed-out yet. I’ll wait and see on this one.

The one review I saw on Steam gave it a “not yet.” It sounds like a solid game in the making, but I have enough survival sandbox games at the moment, so I’m only interested in games near completion.

I dislike them because once you figure out the gameplay loop you get bored so easily.

I do not understand you Massively… You are writing about singleplayer (and only singleplayer) survival, yet you refuse to add Miscreated to your multiplayer survivals list, which is actually better survival than many others on market :)
Just look what was added in the latest patch:

I think a better and fair alternative is remove this game from the list until the multiplayer is actually in game, as oppose to only coming from the devs’ mouths. The last game which spread confusion on this department has become an infamy around many circles, including on Massively.

What a relief, it’s almost been a whole hour without a new survival sandbox. I was starting to hyperventilate.

At the bottom of the hour is the Kickstarted PvP I-swear-it-won’t-be-a-gankfest genre changer.

And lets not forget the “balanced and fair territory control, with fully distuctable / lootable structures, and an un-exploitable faction / alliance system.”

…. I think the one, singe, thing that has been saving this genre is that they are all coming with private server support.
