Epic’s shooter/sandbox hybrid Fortnite hits early access July 25

Way back in 2011, Epic Games announced Fortnite, an “action building game” that functions as a bit of a co-op-shooter-slash-survival-sandbox. You’d be forgiven for having given up on it, but you’d also be wrong: Epic revealed this morning that it’s kicking off paid early access on July 25th on PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4.

“In Fortnite, players team up to build massive forts and battle against hordes of monsters, all while crafting and looting within giant worlds where no two games are ever the same,” says Epic.

While last year Epic was still planning on a free-to-play model, that doesn’t seem to be the case now that it’s emerged from alpha. Preorders are already live, starting at $39.99 for the cheapest version all the way up to $149.99 for the limited edition deluxe kit. Console players can pick up a physical box, too.
