Final Fantasy XI provides login bonuses, discounts, and returning campaign boosts

Hey, it's okay.

Saturday will mark the 14-year anniversary of Final Fantasy XI releasing in North America. If you’re one of the many players who enjoyed the game a long time ago, you may not be aware of all the things that have changed in the game, and you may think that it’s not worth the effort to catch up with the expansions and head back. Good news, then; the game is putting forth several campaigns in early November to help returning players catch up in levels, grab previously limited items, and otherwise ease back into the title as a whole.

The campaigns allow you to jump back into the game free of charge, gain massively improved experience and job point rewards, and get a number of previously time-limited items just for logging in regularly. There’s also a sale allowing you to pick up everything in the game for $10 as well as grabbing a world transfer for $10, thus letting you catch up on the expansions and swap to a populated server for less than the full game would normally cost. Whether you’re a returning veteran or a brand-new player, that’s a pretty good deal.

The jumping back in campaign ended yesterday, sadly. I was about to give it a shot, having only played a few days when it first came out.

Looks like I’m wrong! It ends on November 24; I read that as October.

So… is this game soloable now?

probably not … last time I gave this a shot, not a whole lot had changed on the low level front: Slow and steady can get you were you want to go, but taking on more than one enemy at a time will probably end badly & the UI is still atrocious.

You gotta remember, the game has been around going on 20 years. Of course the UI isnt going to be modern. As for the slow leveling, everything i’ve read said it takes no time at all to level now.

It’s only two years older than WoW. Too bad SE didn’t allow customization to compensate for poor PS2 design way back when. Things might be different now if they had.

It’s actually soloable. You can summon npc to fill you party. This way you can basically do most of the game alone without too much trouble. Of course endgame still reguires some grouping.

You might need to be OP to tackle certain quests, NMs, and story campaign quests, but in terms of just exploring the world and leveling up, FFXI is very solo friendly now. And that’s before even getting into the Trust system, which lets you summon NPCs as party members.
