Crowfall explains crowns, guilds, and buying crowns for guilds bought with crowns

Crowns are the microtransaction currency coming to Crowfall starting in 2018, which you can buy like most microtransaction currencies. Guilds are… well, guilds. If you’ve played an MMO you know how a guild works. And you can use crowns to purchase the right to make a guild early, at which point you can get more crowns for having people sign up for the guild. It’s all explained pretty handily in this update about guilds and crowns, you see.

Early guild-makers will received bonus crowns in the guild’s crown wallet for players recruited to the guild, with players warned that any crowns in the guild wallet belong to the guildmaster (which technically does prevent the guildmaster from stealing the crowns, since they belong to the guildmaster). It’s also important to note that anything you buy with crowns should be craftable in the full game, and crown purchases are for Eternal Kingdoms rather than campaign worlds. The full explanation has answers for probably most of your questions about crowns, albeit not actually saying how many crowns things cost or how many you get for a purchase. (So 1000 free crowns could be $10 of crowns or $0.10 of crowns.)

Well, that’s a lot of very bad ideas… They didn’t learn anything from EA mess about being too greedy or aggressive with the monetization model…

This all sounds terrible. Mixing real life money with guilds. Having a guild be compensated in currency for recruiting as many as they can. Having to trust a guild master to use funds properly. I can just see guilds expecting players to donate crowns by spending real money to stay in the guild. This won’t end well.

So an in-game pyramid scheme. Sounds about as fun as being in a real-life pyramid scheme.

Crowfall, and everyone involved with it’s creation is trash – not worthy of your time and certainly not that of any of your money.

“We’ve heard you like crowns, so we’ve put crowns inside your crowns…”

No? Lame joke?

Sorry, couldn’t resist… I’ll show myself out <_<

And this just dried up any interest I had in buying into crowfall. Good thing I still have CU to fall back on. MJ has stuck to his guns regarding microtransactions and cash shops, and that’s something I can really get behind.

They’ve already had Kickstarter and website-based funding campaigns. They’ve said it is going to be B2P with VIP subscription services. And yet…and yet, they’re going way of microtransactions with the justification of “it’s just Eternal Kingdoms and not the campaign”. Right….because Trion’s Rift justification for their debacle of “it’s just mounts” is suuuuuch a good model to follow…

This has been and continues to be one of the biggest reasons I’m leery about all of these kickstarter MMOs.
