PlanetSide 2 previews upcoming ‘neutral’ Nanite Systems Operatives faction

Awesome toy banned.

In a game like PlanetSide 2, it can be a major challenge to maintain faction balance and ensure that no one faction is overwhelmingly outnumbered by the others. That’s why the folks at Daybreak Games are introducing the Nanite Systems Operatives, a new “fourth faction” (available only to subscribing PlanetSide 2 members) of robotic mercenaries who will lend their services to factions that find themselves at a disadvantage.

Whenever a Nanite Systems Operative enters a new zone or continent, it will be automatically assigned to the faction “that has the least number of soldiers on the field,” helping to even the odds and ensure that even less-populated factions are able to put up a decent fight. Since Nanite Systems characters don’t technically belong to any faction, they’re limited to using only “common pool” equipment that isn’t specific to any of the three main factions, but they should nevertheless be a formidable force on the battlefield. There’s no official release date for the Nanite Systems Operatives just yet, but they’re currently available for testing on PlanetSide 2’s public test server, so hopefully they’ll be rolling off the assembly line and out into the warfront in the nearish future.
