Star Wars: The Old Republic talks up under-the-hood changes for previews and objects

Very dynamic.

If you’ve ever wondered why any sort of visual effects on gear in Star Wars: The Old Republic would show up as blobs and messes in the game’s preview window, the latest development update explains it quite simply. The preview window was built with the game’s first release and never actually had the code to support visual traits like that, one of very many issues with the previews caused by old code. But the game’s next patch is changing that by rebuilding the preview window, adding in features like animation and emote previews to the mix.

This is part and parcel with the work being done to improve the game’s dynamic objects, which covers things from clickable objects like elevator controls to scenery like lights. The short version of the change is that the game will use a new grouping system to batch together certain objects, thus improving their interactions and overall balance, but there’s a great deal of additional detail in the long version. This, not coincidentally, explains how this is the sort of change that could lead to more proper object interacts in Strongholds in the future.
