Gosh, every so often you just get a big surprise like Starbase, which came out of nowhere this week to just drop onto the scene as a surprise new game announcement. It certainly looks big and novel from this side of the screen, doesn’t it? Unless you don’t like space robots with voxels, which means you might be a monster of some sort.
Other beta news also exists, of course. It always does.
- The open beta for the 64-bit EVE Online client is live, for those of you with a nice shiny 64-bit computer (which is probably most of you). It’s going to play very similarly, but with better performance. You know, as 64-bit tends to do.
- Those of you who have been awaiting a Marvel-based MOBA for some reason can take heart that Marvel Super War is a thing that’s happening; you can even take a look at early gameplay footage. (For those of you who saw that and blinked, the Square-Enix Avengers game is also on its way for E3 this year. Chill.)
- Hey, check it out, Wild West Online added some monsters and is wholly rebranding as New Frontier. That’s not dodgy or disappointing at all! (We suppose that the odds were always low that it would rebrand as Red-Pison.)
- Rather than ending on a down note, let’s check out the latest video from Ship of Heroes, shall we? It has leveling! Leveling is a good thing. We like leveling up.
So we begin and end in space, although considering that our planets are already floating in space perhaps everything is a space game if you think about it. Cosmic. Check out more space games down below, and if you see something on that list that should be in a different space-category, let us know in the space-comments.
As always, we consider an MMO to be in open testing if it features free, public signups and will server wipe prior to launch. An MMO is marked in closed testing if it’s running a private test phase that cannot freely be accessed by the general public; it’s usually under NDA as well. Early access and crowdfunded MMOs whose tests we deem legitimate will be included. So-called “open beta” soft-launch MMOs with cash shops, no sign of launch in the west, or limited interest for our readers will not be listed; we also do not list expansions, with occasional exceptions.
