It’s almost closed beta time for Astellia, with the testing starting on Tuesday. Fortunately, players who have access to the beta through one means or another can already start pre-loading the game in advance of its launch. If you don’t want to buy the game just to try out the test, the good news is that keys are being given away, including by us, but they do seem to be going pretty fast.
Speaking personally, I pre-loaded, I’m actually curious about this one even though I have plans for the later half of next week and expect to… what? Oh, right, other beta news, sure.
- Another playtest is running over in The Cycle! It’s almost like a perpetuating… uh… gosh, what’s the word? Starts with a C, means things repeating over and over? You know the one.
- Not to be outdone, Population Zero also has a test weekend starting on June 22nd. Test everything everywhere, readers! It’s just a testy sort of weekend.
- If you feel like the beta process for Camelot Unchained is going a bit slowly, well, our latest interview with Mark Jacobs might not change the feeling but it will put it in a wider context. The short version is that he feels the slowdown as much as you do, and he has frank (but encouraging) words about the progress being made by the game.
- Last but not least, we’ve made jokes about online games with single-player modes for ages, but Atlas is actually going to be testing that this summer. There’s nothing more you can add to that. Saying it alone is enough.
And now let’s all forget that betas exist until next week! Wait, no, that’s not good. Remember that these things exist and let us know if something on our list below jumped test phases without us noticing. That’s the good stuff.
As always, we consider an MMO to be in open testing if it features free, public signups and will server wipe prior to launch. An MMO is marked in closed testing if it’s running a private test phase that cannot freely be accessed by the general public; it’s usually under NDA as well. Early access and crowdfunded MMOs whose tests we deem legitimate will be included. So-called “open beta” soft-launch MMOs with cash shops, no sign of launch in the west, or limited interest for our readers will not be listed; we also do not list expansions, with occasional exceptions.
