Guild Wars 2 is plotting a big living world announcement during PAX on August 30

If you’ve been keeping a finger on the pulse of the Guild Wars 2 community the last month or so, you know there’s been a tremendous amount of unrest over the influx of small changes and events and promos and cash shop sales – and the lack of information about upcoming content. Specifically, folks want to know more about the fifth season of living story content that ArenaNet has promised is on the way (but about which everyone’s still nervous because, you know, the layoffs).

Anyway, it sounds as if ArenaNet might be tired of dealing with all the moaning about content droughts and maintenance mode (sigh), and it’s just announced an event for an announcement. A real-world event in Seattle. Yes, it’ll be streamed, though folks who attend in person will get swag.

“Are you ready to catch the very first look at an all-new chapter in Guild Wars 2’s Living World story? Join us at the Moore Theatre in Seattle, Washington, on Friday, 30 August at 4:00 p.m. UTC (9:00 a.m. Pacific Time) and be a part of the excitement live. If you can’t attend in person, we’ll livestream the announcement with a developer presentation and more on our official Twitch, YouTube, and Facebook channels. The event will run for approximately forty-five minutes, so you can kick off your PAX West weekend with all your Guild Wars 2 friends! Attendance is first come, first served, with no entry fee or ticket required. Grab your seat early—the first five hundred attendees will get a Guild Wars 2 swag bag with fun surprises inside. We’ll see you there!”

ArenaNet doesn’t expressly mention PAX, but in case you’re wondering, yes, August 30th is the first full day of PAX West in Seattle this year, so the timing seems intentional. Let the speculation begin!

So help me I’m going to LOSE IT if they announce Cantha.

I’ll be disappointed if it’s anything else though

I’d LOVE Cantha, but I’m pretty confident it won’t be. :(

I’ve always seen GW2 as a game that sounds great, on paper and in explanations… but it plays terribly in almost all ways.

Combat. Most classes have a good choice of weapons but limited on optimal viability for certain aspects of the game, almost always melee is best because heals/buffs seem to be small’ish aoe so ranged players typically miss out on them. Combat always has felt.. “off” to me.. I guess clunky in some aspects is the best way to describe it.

No resource management to deal with meaning you dont get that extra sense of danger or urgency.

The dodge roll is neat but kind of makes certain mechanics and fights nothing but a joke.. “oh crap bosses ultra super death move coming right at me .. wait let me roll into it no problem.”

When I first played at launch the Public Events that happened in each zone were really cool interesting. Tbh they still are but only hold you over for so long.

The story is just bland after a while when it goes from your personal story to the tied in… all of us together against xyz threats. Story never grabbed me. WoW has generally been captivating story wise maybe not always but most the time. FFXIV took a while to really break into an amazing storyline.

Horizontal progress sounds nice but I never found a drive to actually want to obtain anything or push my character towards any certain goal(s). Fashion seemed to be the.. for lack of better words.. endgame.

I’ve tried… tried so hard to get into this game but nothing in it draws my attention and gives me that.. yep that’s cool vibe. And watching so many other long time players say the game is just having less and less content and more shop “content” hasn’t made me even think of logging back in.. even if they have anything good to announce for now.

Tldr.. Compared to other mmos GW2 just doesn’t have that “this is the mmo for me vibe”

Same here. I just was saying exactly this earlier in the week. Great MMO to get your feet wet per say. Nothing to keep you.

I don’t really see what they can do anymore to excite people; The mastery stuff was cool but is just a grind now and the story, compared to FF14 and SWTOR, is just crap tbh. It would be cool if they added new weapon skills or something but I just don’t see that happening.

Fixing the game would excite me a LOT.

Maybe they changed it, but the website does mention PAX now.

I may need to make my way to the Moore on Friday to see what is going on.

An e-mail contains this image so maybe it’ll be Shiverpeaks related.

I just hope ArenaNet delivers on its “expansion-like features” for this upcoming season. The game could really use more than the same old same old.

If they’re not going to deliver this one time the outrage will be tremendous.
Personally I’d love to have reason the get back into the game after they announced they will just continue with the ls stuff which keeps me (mostly) entertained for just a few hours.

So basically it’s an event for a trailer, for content that will come later; perhaps last quarter of 2019, first quarter 2020.
